Deckhowler – How to Use Guide

What is Deckhowler?

Deckhowler is a companion app for Magic: The Gathering, designed for iPhone and iPad. It helps players manage collections, build decks, and search for cards efficiently. The app provides comprehensive tools like advanced search, collection tracking, deck building, and card scanning.

The app uses TipKit tips throughout to offer contextual guidance when needed, ensuring a smooth user experience.

The app consists of a TabView layout with the following 5 main tabs:

• Search
• Collections
• Scanner
• Decks
• Settings

How to Use the App

1. Search

• Basic Search: Use the search bar at the top to directly search for a card or set. Use the picker to switch between card or set contexts.
• Advanced Search: Build complex queries like: "Name contains 'the'" AND "Rarity is Mythic" AND "Power < 3". Premium users can save and load their search queries.
• Search Results: View all matching cards. From here, you can:
  • Change the printing of a card using the bottom-right button.
  • Access detailed card information by tapping on a card.

2. Collections

• Overall Collections Screen:
  • Displays all collections. Create a new collection using the plus icon (free users can create only one).
  • Access tools like the Collection Tracker, Trade View, and various lists (some are premium-only).
  • Tap a collection to view its details.
• Collection Details Screen:
  • Create storages (free users can create up to 3).
  • Access the Collection Tracker.
  • Tap a storage to view its details.
• Storage Details Screen:
  • Add cards to storage or import existing collections via file or text editor.
  • Access the Collection Tracker.
  • Tap a card to open its details view.
• Collection Card Details View:
  • Add or update card entries.
  • Modify card attributes like condition or finish.
  • Change the printing of the card or view other printings.

3. Decks

• Overall Decks Screen:
  • Create new decks for various formats or import existing ones.
  • Swipe a deck to share, edit, or delete it.
  • Tap a deck to view its details.
• Deck Details Screen:
  • Add or remove cards from the deck.
  • Use the Deck Validator to ensure format compliance.
  • View deck statistics, draw probabilities, or draw sample hands.
  • Modify card attributes like foil status or printing.

4. Scanner

• Scanning Cards:
  • Start or pause scanning with the red button at the bottom.
  • Place a card in front of the camera. The app identifies and fetches the card from the database.
  • View scanned cards in the Scan History.
• Scan History:
  • Access past scans and add cards to a deck or storage (up to 50 for free users, unlimited for premium users).

5. Settings

• Customize the app's appearance and behavior.
• Switch between light and dark themes.
